I was surprised to see the name of this lane. On the Greater Manchester AtoZ it is shown as "Dirt Lane".
The lane heads north, past the site of the Roman fort at Castle Shaw. The Romans named the fort RIGODVNVM. It marked the end of the first day's march from MAMVCIVM (Manchester) to EBVRACVM (York).
On the day I visited, a resident was repairing his lawn mower by the roadside. He thought that one of the houses on the left (he did not know which one) had at one time been occupied by Wrigleys.
