Description

Built into the organ loft above the main entrance door, a set of wooden panels in memory of the men of the parish who fell in the 1914 - 1918 war. Their names are recorded in gilt.

Not so long ago one could walk into almost any church, for quiet contemplation, or just to look around. Today it is a sad fact of life that most churches are kept locked when unattended because of theft and vandalism. I found this war memorial when St Mary's was opened one lunchtime for parishoners to pray for peace in the Middle East. A memory of one war while another rages.
