Pack Horse Bridges, Hockenhull Platts, near Tarvin.
Location
Hockenhull Platts, near Tarvin.
Description
Three pack horse bridges take Platts Lane over the River Gowy and its flood channels.
In medieval times this was the main road from Chester to Litchfield.
In the 1770s a new main road, a turnpike, was built along a different route.
Platts Lane and its bridges were left in peace.
There is an air of timelessness here,
as though the only thing to have changed in centuries is the water in the Gowy.
The bridges are paved with both cobbles and setts.
