Memorial to driver W A OAKES, Crewe Railway Station.

Location

At Crewe railway station, in the offices above platform 12. The offices, currently occupied by Arriva Trains Wales, are not open to the public.

Description

A small well polished metal plaque in memory of Driver Wallace OAKES who, on 5th June 1965 received fatal burns while driving the 2:05 pm Crewe to Carlisle express. He was posthumously awarded the George Cross for his devotion to duty.
