Notes

Hands up those who remember The Radio Parson. That'll give your age away. In the 1960's the weekly radio broadcast, The Parson Calls, was a national institution in the UK.

Cannon Garlick was for very many years vicar of St Georges, Heaviley, Stockport. He also broadcast a weekly sermon in his own down-to-earth Lancashire style. In those days it was one of the few radio broadcasts that did not originate in London. Besides ministering to the people of Stockport, and to the country at large, Wilfrid was also Chaplain to Queen Elizabeth.

In 1973, at the age of 62, Wilfrid opted for a quieter life. He left St George's to become Rector of St Mary's, Nether Alderley. There he served the congregation until sortly before his death in 1982.
