During the Neolithic Period a chambered tomb was built on the sandstone ridge running south from The Cloud. The tomb formed a mound about 300 feet long.

In later ages such a large pile of stones was very tempting to builders. Most of the mound disappeared in the 18th century during the construction of the turnpikes. Only the largest stones remain, including the two portals shown above.
